Health care is critical to economic development. Period. I'm thrilled to share news from our region that supports this goal.My friend and Iowa County Economic Development Board member Phyllis Fritsch (in photo) is the Administrator of Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI. I also have good friends who serve or who have served on the Upland Hills Health Board of Directors.
The Upland Hills Health team has just announced an expanded affiliation with a valuable regional partner that allows Upland Hills Health to leverage its strengths in providing quality health care, by opening opportunities for shared resources and expertise to benefit the communities in Southwest Wisconsin..
Expanding healthcare in rural areas is vital economic development news. I'm thrilled for our SW Wisconsin region and extend my congratulations to all involved with this expanded partnership.
Here is some of the news from the Upland Hills Health announcement:
"Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville and SSM Health Care of Wisconsin have signed an expanded affiliation agreement that provides SSMHC/WI with a minority interest in Upland Hills Health."
"The agreement expands the current relationship between the two organizations and allows them to work closer together to enhance health care across southern Wisconsin. Under the agreement, SSMHC/WI, the parent company of St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, and St. Mary’s new Janesville hospital, will have a 17 percent investment in the Dodgeville hospital,”
"The hospital will remain under local control with no changes to staffing or operations. The volunteer board of directors will continue to consist of nine community members – seven from Upland Hills Health and two from SSMHC/WI."
“SSM Health Care is truly one of the top health systems in the country,” said Phyllis Fritsch, Upland Hills Health administrator. “Our expanded affiliation ensures Upland Hills Health will be able to meet and exceed our community’s needs for years to come.”
"SSM Health Care of Wisconsin shares values that reflect closely with Upland Hills Health’s existing philosophies, Fritsch said."
"SSM Health Care of Wisconsin serves an 18-county area in south-central Wisconsin. SSM owns and operates St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison and St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo and their two respective nursing homes, along with the now-under-construction St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital."
"SSMHC/WI is also affiliated with Columbus Community Hospital, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services, Stoughton Hospital, and Boscobel Area Health Care. SSMHC/WI and its physician partner, Dean Clinic, collaborate in a number of health care services, including St. Mary’s Dean Ventures, which sponsors primary care clinics throughout the 18-county service area."
Talk about regional economic development! Congratulations to everyone involved.
I had a great conversation about this news with Dr. Frank Byrne, President of St. Mary's Hospital in Madison this evening. Both of our daughters were born at St. Mary's. I'm really excited to see the news from Upland Hills Health and welcome this great new expanded partnership. My kind of economic development!
